WHY DO WE CALL IT ‘DEMI-FINE’ GOLD?
Because we do it our way around here. At Commonform, we gold plate all of our pieces by hand in-house, using a high-deposition 24k gold solution. It’s not technically ‘gold filled’, but it’s dang thick.
the science // the magic
The process we use electrically bonds the gold particles from our high-deposition solution to cover our jeweler’s brass base, with .925 sterling silver stud bases that you already love.
Imagine dipping a pair of earrings in a solution and watching them turn GOLD. It gets us every time; le swoon!
the industry
Industry-wide, the thickness of plating is measured in microns (a term defined as ‘one-millionth of a meter’). Much of the affordable gold plated jewelry available on the market is flash plated (dipped just long enough to change the color, and depositing less than a quarter of a micron). Our approach is a little different. pieces have at least a 1.5+ micron deposition that is designed to last.
